Through these introductions, we hope you will appreciate the expertise and vision driving CORD’s mission forward. This month we are pleased to introduce you to Alexis Pelletier-Bui, MD.

Can you tell us a little about your professional journey and how you got into emergency medicine?

I actually wanted to be a musician growing up but at the recommendation of a friend, I joined my local EMS squad and got the bug for medicine and emergency medicine, specifically.  I was a psychology major in college and briefly considered psychiatry.  However, during medical school I realized I enjoyed all specialties and taking care of all patients – emergency medicine simply had it all.  I was fortunate to attend Robert Wood Johnson Medical School – Camden Campus, which has an incredible EM department (Cooper University Hospital).  I knew I found my people here, chose to stay here for residency and have now been an attending here at Cooper University Hospital / Cooper Medical School of Rowan University for 10 years.  I’ve been a Co-Clerkship Director in the past and am now the Associate Program Director and EM Subspecialty Advisor.

What motivated you to join the CORD Board of Directors?

Speaking of finding my people, I had a second realization of this when attending my first CORD conference as a PGY3 resident.  I attended the inaugural meeting of the Student Advising Task Force (now the Advising Students Committee in EM) and knew I wanted to work with these amazing individuals.  Even as a resident, I was encouraged to contribute meaningfully to the group and was inspired by those around me.  I eventually became the Chair of the group, transitioning it into a full / long standing committee (ASC-EM).  When the Application Process Improvement Task Force started, I immediately joined that group, eventually became Chair and helped transition that group to a committee as well (APIC).  I am currently one of the Co-Chairs for the SLOE Committee.  Given my large involvement in these committees, I was encouraged by a couple members of the CORD BoD to throw my hat in the ring, and it seemed like a great “next step” for me to continue my involvement in the organization.   I’m so happy to be the newest faculty member of the CORD BoD and look forward to contributing to the organization and serving its members.

Can you share any specific initiatives or projects you are currently working on?

I am currently one of EM’s representatives to the AAMC ERAS Content Refresh Working Group (along with Liz Werley) and continue to be the lead for Program Signaling in EM.  We just updated our website and guidance for the year and we’re gearing up to host webinars to all of our stakeholders on the newest changes to the ERAS application and program signaling.  I am excited to be a part of APIC’s newly forming Advisory Board tasked to explore a new residency application service for EM (lead by Liza Smith).  The SLOE committee just refreshed our website and made a few tweaks to the actual SLOE to encourage a better distribution of scores in Part B of the SLOE.  We’ve also created a SLOE pre-survey to look at resident attrition over the past 4 years.  I continue to be involved in various projects and research studies through ASC-EM, APIC and the SLOE Committee.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

I’m a mom to an 8 year boy and 6 year old boy/girl twins.  We’re a big baseball family and huge fans of the Phillies – Go Phils!!  🙂
