Jubilee!

In honor of Juneteenth, this month’s ASC-EM contribution to the Vocal Cord will simply highlight resources you can point your students toward to find grants and scholarships for away rotations aimed at students from groups traditionally underrepresented in medicine (UiM, URiM, URM)

The Clerkship Directors in Emergency Medicine have long maintained a database that can be found here. If your institution has a grant or scholarship that isn’t featured here, you can still contact them to add.

NEW THIS YEAR, the AAMC’s VSLO (Visiting Student Learning Opportunities) system, used by many students and institutions to schedule aways, has a section devoted to funding available for URiM students. If your institution’s grant/scholarship isn’t featured, you can email visitingstudents@aamc.org or contact your registrar and request that they inform VSLO.

Other individually posted and communicated opportunities abound–forwarding them and the above resources on to your EM-bound or EM-considering students may be one way to help them feel supported in this stressful application cycle.

Hoping for a joyful Juneteenth to all!
